How to Create a WiFi QR Code for Guests and Events
Instead of writing your WiFi password on a sticky note or spelling it out letter by letter, you can create a QR code that connects people to your network instantly. Just scan and go. This guide shows you exactly how.

Why Use a WiFi QR Code?
A WiFi QR code lets anyone join your network by pointing their phone camera at it. There is no need to type a long, complex password or ask the host to repeat it. It takes about 2 seconds.
This is especially useful for Airbnb hosts, coffee shops, offices, co-working spaces, events, and home guests. You can print it, frame it, or display it on a screen.
Step-by-Step: Create Your WiFi QR Code
- Step 1: Find your WiFi details. You need your network name (SSID) and password. Check your router or your device's WiFi settings.
- Step 2: Open the WiFi QR Generator tool at /qr-tools/wifi-qr-generator.
- Step 3: Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears — it is case-sensitive.
- Step 4: Enter your WiFi password.
- Step 5: Select your encryption type. Most modern networks use WPA/WPA2. If you are unsure, WPA is the safe default.
- Step 6: If your network is hidden (does not broadcast its name), check the 'Hidden Network' option.
- Step 7: The QR code generates automatically. Download it as a PNG image.
Where to Display Your WiFi QR Code
- Print it on a small card or sticker and place it near your router.
- Frame it and hang it on the wall of your living room or reception area.
- Include it in your Airbnb welcome guide or hotel room folder.
- Display it on a digital signage screen at events or conferences.
- Add it to your restaurant menu or table tent alongside your business QR code.
- Print it on the back of your business card.
Does It Work on All Phones?
Yes. Both iOS (11 and later) and Android phones can scan WiFi QR codes with their built-in camera app. No additional app is needed.
When the phone detects the QR code, it will show a notification to join the WiFi network. The user just taps to connect — the password is entered automatically.
Security Considerations
Your WiFi password is encoded inside the QR code. Anyone who scans it will be able to connect. This is by design — it replaces the need to share the password verbally.
If you change your WiFi password, you will need to generate a new QR code. The old one will no longer work.
Our WiFi QR Generator runs entirely in your browser. Your credentials are never sent to any server. When you close the tab, the data is gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What if I have a guest network? — Use your guest network's SSID and password to create the QR code. This keeps your main network private.
- Q: Can I make it look nice? — Download the QR code, then add it to a template or frame using any image editor. The QR code works regardless of surrounding design elements.
- Q: What encryption type should I pick? — Use WPA/WPA2 for modern routers (the most common). Use WEP only for very old routers. Use 'None' for open networks without a password.
- Q: Does this work offline? — Once the page is loaded, yes. The QR code is generated in your browser without any server calls.
